Papa John's Ends Sponsorship Deal With NFL

Papa John's is ending its deal to be the official pizza of the NFL.

ESPN reports that the pizza company and the football league have made the "mutual decision" to end the sponsorship.

Papa John's CEO Steve Ritchie said both organizations decided it was in their best interest to end the designation.

Papa John's became the official pizza of the league in 2010, but experienced a 12 percent drop in stock last fall after then-CEO John Schnatter said players who staged national anthem protests had damaged his business and that the league didn't do enough to resolve the protests. The pizza chain is the first NFL sponsor to leave in the middle of its deal.
